gained wisdom

i've realised a few things while pondering on recent happenings in my life.

this is a note to myself, a reminder of sorts:

  1. there exsist out there a certain breed of people which i'd like to call 'the sly ones'...these people initially come across as very warm, entertaining and even highly effective (in the work context) individuals. however, after 2-3 days of working together, one would find that 'the sly ones' are not (as it so often turns out) as 'nice' people as they initially seemed. this has nothing to do with their behavoir whatsoever, for they continue to be warm, entertaining etc... rather, one would find, as i so painfully did, that these are people of exceedingly low integrity, and have no regard at all for the concept of honesty; they have no qualms whatsoever about using their admittedly quick wits and glib tongues to twist and bend the truth to their advantage and, more often than not, your disadvantage. this is achieved through exploiting ambiguity, feigned ignorance and sometimes even downright lying. Sometimes, i wonder if this is done willfuly or whether it just comes naturaly. BEWARE THE SLY ONES. they will royally fuck up your workday. always remember, that when dealing with the sly ones, never be vague; and never let him (or her) be vague. Always ensure that he(or she) gets exactly what you are trying to get across. And remember always by heart important conversations, for what he(or she) has said can be used against him(her), the opposite is also true so, again, be careful of what you say. if in doubt, shut up first. NEVER BITCH ABOUT SOMEONE IN THE PRESENCE OF A SLY ONE, even if the sly one is also bitching about that someone. dear reader, ever beware the sly ones.
  2. when working. always always know your job well, in all aspects, from your job scope to job details... knowledge is power. know your role, and have the ability and will to do it well. don't be the nice guy and do extra stuff for people, unless they can, directly or indirectly, affect your climb up the coporate ladder.
  3. don't ever, ever put too much weight on your job title, for pride can make one look really really stupid. i once got a complaint from someone who said that his friend, a SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT couldn't work cos we were taking too damn long to fix his laptop. ok. right. first of all, SO WHAT? SVP big fuck ah? ur cock up company got 150 staff, out of which 20-30 are SVPs? Thats ridiculous! ur friend the svp? where's his office? what? no office? he works in a cubicle? right..... and lastly, u svp so what? i TEMP STAFF LEH idiot, complaint all u want man, u think u can touch me? gam lan jiao la haha
  4. pangseh kias are everywhere, they are an unavoidable facet of life. guys, lets show some integrity, and some trust in each other as well, shall we?

p.s. regarding the sly ones, i realise that the majority are of a certain race... maybe its genetic...

tong, out

I know I know!!!
Does someone by the name of kenny (still remember his "Sick!") belong to category 1?
And someone who sleeps behind me in category 4?
Anyway, why is it like only the 4 of us all the time?
